Radio Taiwan International

While interning at Radio Taiwan International through Taiwan Tech Trek in the summer of 2008, I produced three feature programs that were broadcast over the airwaves and online.

The following program won 1st place in Taiwan Tech Trek’s Humanities competition, and features original poems and dramas, interviews with Taiwanese celebrities such as Blue, famous director Wang Xiao Di, and Golden Melody nominated Hakka singer Lin Zhi Jun:

While interviewing Lin Zhi Jun for my environmental program, I became fascinated with her story. Although she was born blind to an impoverished family, she was able to rise above her circumstances and create an incredible life by teaching herself music and creating songs that have earned multiple Golden Melody nominations (the equivalent of a Grammy nomination in America). She is currently married and has a young daughter who helps her with her daily tasks. Interviewing this kind and gentle soul was really a treat as I got to get a glimpse of what her life is like in all of its struggle, trial and triumph.

Finally, this last program won third place in the RTI’s iShow English/Japanese competition, and is basically my love letter to Taiwan. It features an original rap, music, and interviews with students studying abroad at National Taiwan University. It’s full of silliness (don’t say I didn’t warn you :P)

This is a slideshow/video I made for the Taiwan Tech Trek Academic Conference 2008 that succinctly sums up my experience interning at Radio Taiwan International. My time there was filled with myriad unique and exciting experiences, all of which have enriched my life. I had the chance to interview Taiwanese celebrities, directors and award winning singers such as Lan Zheng Long, Wang Xiao Di, and Lin Zhi Jun for special feature programs for broadcast on Radio Taiwan International’s website and radio station.
